My Three Years in NYP (Part 3)

Aside from studies, wushu plays an important part in my life as well in NYP. I went to the Club Crawl with JingTing. We wanted to join a CCA for one simple reason-- To gain CCA points for university entrance. At that time, we were very determined not to take part in wushu anymore. But after touring Club Crawl for many times, we realized that nothing interests us except wushu. So, we wrote our names down. & we got a call. & we went to the first practice, second practice & all the subsequent practices.

-YEAR 1-
Something interesting to note was our training attendance. We went for alternate weeks trainings only due to our modules. Sometimes, due to rushing of reports, we would skip training. & we skipped them together, because we are each other's closest friends. & we have no other friends other than each other. Yes, we were so close. & the JingTing that time was a very quiet girl. & we are like a pair of twins. Going everywhere together, disappearing everywhere together. If someone sees one of us alone, the other must be nearby.

However, I've got another friend from wushu too. He is WeiChong. We talked more in MSN as compared to in person. I remember him as my best buddy, & I called him tong lei. We talked about everything under the sun. Wushu, studies, friends, relationships, everything..

In november 2007, we went for our very first grading at old HongWen school. There was a total of 10 white-belts who went for it. I will never forget the nervous feeling because I still feel it everytime I go for it. & I got a bronze for my very first grading.

-YEAR 2-
Year 2 into wushu, I was given a role, which is weapon in-charge. Basically, I were to take charge of all the weapons & make sure they don't get missing or whatsoever. Sharing the role between me and WeiMun, I remembered I had a huge fight with him. But I forgot what. I remember JingTing was inventory in-charge. & she had a role which is to empty the rubbish bin every wednesday after training.

Year 2, we also had lots of performances in school, letting us have the chance to perform and build up our confidence level. Of course, I had a great time, even though there were times when we did wrong stuffs and buang-ed the performance. I like it when I had companion with me, up till today.

Club Crawl 2008 was quite a success. I remembered the setting up-- JT, Corinne & me were the only ones doing the set up. & people see 3 girls in front of a booth sawing poles for set up. Sounds so pathetic. & the performance is memorable too because we did sparring. Due to this club crawl, I also have two individual photos of me & a weapon, something which I used to dream, & never thought it would realize. One photo was up on the notice board & on my facebook page, while the other is laminated, and in my wallet. That year, I simply loved the club crawl and the notice board.

I got a chance to be the game master of the Orientation Camp 2008 too. It was a very tedious job. I had team mates with me to organise, but they did not produce great result. So i ended up doing almost everything myself, stressed myself out. Luckily, I had JiangDa & ChiaWei to help me then. & WeiMun, the commandant. That camp, my personal thought was that I screwed up the games badly, but surprisingly, the juniors thought that the camp was great fun, so I heaved a big sigh of relief. It was not as bad as I thought it would be!!

I got a chance to take part in National Competition too, representing NYP with GongLiQuan. There were only 10 people all together. I think I got a 8th or 9th position. That was when I had my ever-first wushu costume on my own, which I later named it as xiao blue. It is blue in colour and has white stripes, which I simply loved it to the maximum. I also stepped out of NYP boundary, & went out for extra training-- Tampines West CC. I skipped quite a bit in the beginning due to work at G2000, but after I quitted, I started going there on a frequent basis up till today.

Year 2, I had my second grading. From green-white to green belt. I got a gold. That was my very first gold, which came unexpectedly because I thought I would not be able to make it. Imagine my happiness then. I remembered I could not stop smiling the whole night.

-YEAR 3-
From a weapon-in-charge, I became the vice-secretary of the club. Secretary was WeiMun (by then, we were not quarelling anymore), VP was ShuYan, & P was ChiaWei. Treasurer was Corinne & JT. Together, we had many things planned, but most of them ended up weird. We learnt many stuffs together, like camps and stuffs. It was my first time organizing camp, going to look for teachers with ChiaWei, and etc. It was the first time I spent all my free time in school doing either club crawl or club camp stuffs. Being the secretary of a blur president, I had to message him every day in the morning and the night before to remind him of the things-to-do during the most peak Club Crawl period. Even my poly cliques thought I was more busy with wushu than studies & they keep scolding me.

Year 3, I started to step out to coach. My first place was Greenridge Primary. GuangYao coach initially only asked JingTing, but she dragged me along. So we ended up dragging ourselves up in early wee morning to meet GY & CW at Eunos every Saturday morning so WeiHan would drive us there. Subsequently, when GY coach had his own car, he was the one driving us there. However, I stopped going there after a period of time due to attachments, but I'm back there for now, taking the 11am little kids.

Aside from stepping out to coach, I started to learn more thing too! Thanks to Greenridge Primary, I started to learn Taiji as well, which meant extra training at HongWen every sunday to learn. No, I am not complaining, instead, I found fun learning taiji.

I had my red-white belt grading too. My proudest moment was when during training, GY coach said I had improved a lot as compared to before. I remember training every hard every Sunday night, doing all three routines again and again. Oh, & I got a silver.

-CAMPS-
There were many camps during these 3 years. 2007 Orientation Camp, 2008 Club Crawl Camp, 2008 Orientation Camp, 2008 Wushu Training Camp...

The most memorable one would definitely be Club Crawl Camp 2008. Because only very few people turned up for it. Very very few. But we had a great deal of time. & that was when JingTing and me started to open up, and became very noisy, & no longer sticking to only the two of us. That time, we had tons of jokes with ChiaWei and WeiChong because of the 'bomb topic', which until now, whenever we think back, we still laughed heartily.

2008 Orientation Camp-- I remembered an incident. Alvin pushed me into the swimming pool. But when he realized that I did not know how to swim, he went in to get me out. And I had water in my ears the whole day after that. Not that I was angry with him, but because of this incident, we were much closer than before.

-NDP-
We took part in NDP 2009 too!!!! Remembered it as a huge 'torture' which came with lots of fun. I remember the days when saturdays were dedicated to nothing but wushu. Greenridge Primary in the morning for 4 hours, followed by another few hours of NDP trainings. & the times when we had to carry the cudgel everywhere we go. Trainings were on every Monday as well. & I skipped most of that training due to school. Skipping of Saturdays trainings were inevitable because we had GRPS beforehand. Like one or two month before NDP, there were more trainings, which I forgot which days already. Anyway, when it was time to step on the floating platform, those were the 'best times'. How we wasted our time waiting for time to past; bringing lecture notes & unfinished reports to complete, sleeping, eating free Old Chang Kee, ice cream, soya bean milk.. Interacting with one another. That was when I started to be closer with RuiQi too.

Our costumes were sort of hilarious. Because we had to wear thick lighted suits & square lighted helmets. The worst thing was we could not see where we were going with that helmet on, we could not hear anything outside. Slowly, they improved on it, but the helmet was still as hilarious. There was one rehearsal when it rained cats & dogs. But everyone remained on the platform, letting audience leave first. We started to play around with the rain, hiding in shelter, playing somemore. Surprisingly, no one fell sick. Oh, & fireworks were nice too!!!

-BUDDIES FOR LIFE-
We had our 'bus 72 gang' too. JingTing, Me, ChiaWei, WeiChong, JiangDa, ZhongMing. & the funniest joke that I will always remember of this 'bomb topic' would be how we almost freaked a passenger out, no thanks to WeiChong, as well as a passenger who kept turning behind & looked at ChiaWei's huge camp bag while we were on the bus. hahahahhah!!!!! However, 'bus 72 gang' went split in year 3. That did not meant the end of friendship, but just that we did not go home as a big bunch anymore. Yes, it's kind of sad.

The happiest moments in my life during these years, is not only what I had accomplished. I did not accomplished much. I still cannot do my full split, my legs are still bent during cartwheels, & I have not kong tui very well. It is the friendship that I have found amidst them. I will not forget the times when we chatted & joked throughout the night online. I will not forget the movie outings that we had. I will not forget the events that took place, like the push-up event, the late night MacDonald's in NYP..

The best brothers that I've met-- Alvin, WeiMun, WeiChong, who are always there to help me, listen to my ramblings and complains, cheering me up, encouraging and motivating me when my passion fire is burning low.

The girls, Ruiqi & Jingting-- sharing our problems together, scolding me when I had my dumb times, telling me the right things to do at the right time, sharing tips on how to improve, chatting about unrelated stuffs on the phone and online.. and many many more..

Thanks wushu for making a huge impact on my life, Thanks people for making a difference in my life.

=)
-THE END-
